The Blood Tribe Police Service Drug Task Force conducted a short-term joint forces CDSA operation with the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU).
On May 18, 2023, BTPS Drug Task Force and the RCMP CRU conducted a traffic stop on Highway #2 near Aldersyde, Alberta, and took five (5) people into custody.
As a result of the traffic stop, 66 grams of suspected Fentanyl (street value $26,400), 33 grams of suspected Methamphetamine (street value $6600), and $110.00 dollars Canadian Currency were seized.
Katie Natasha EAGLE SPEAKER, 34, of the Blood Tribe, was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl and Methamphetamine.
EAGLE SPEAKER had been allegedly supplying the Blood Tribe with Fentanyl and other controlled substances for some time, which brought multiple agencies within southern Alberta to pool their resources in an effort to stop the funnelling of drugs onto the Blood Tribe, and ultimately reduce the number of fatal overdoses related to Fentanyl.
EAGLE SPEAKER was brought before a JP and was remanded into custody for the purposes of a bail hearing on May 23, 2023.
The remaining occupants of the vehicle were released without charges.
